living with diabetes

i've been living with type 1 diabetes since 1998. it effects my whole life, and is with me every second of every day.

type 1 diabetes is very misunderstood - most of the time it gets confused with the more common type 2 diabetes, which really is a completely different ballgame altogether. other times people think it's an allergy to sugar.

most of the time people don't know i'm diabetic. it's not something visible. you wouldn't look at me and know that my pancreas doesn't create insulin, and you'd have to look really closely to notice the little dots on my fingertips from where i check my blood sugar every few hours. it's a really serious disease, and it's becoming more and more common around the world.
